Vika & Linda

 Linda

 Vika

Background
Vika and Linda are sisters whose mother is Tongan and whose father is Australian. They have lived in both countries. They have no formal musical training but grew up singing Gospel harmonies with their extended family.

During their teen years they sang with a number of bands and formed their own band The Honeymooners, who were spotted by Joe Camilleri and later enlisted as singers with The Black Sorrows. It was here they gained the musical depth and professionalism they have today. They spent six years touring the world with this multi-platinum band and have now well and truly established themselves as one of Australia's premier live acts.

Over the past two years Vika and Linda have toured extensively including Australia and Europe, supporting Billy Joel's Australian tour in November 1994, and featuring at WOMADELAIDE, WOMAD Rivermead London, WOMAD Pamplona Spain and then two sellout shows at London's Borderline Club and the prestigious Jazz Cafe in Europe last summer.

They were also given the opportunity to record a live album at Peter Gabriel's Real World Studio in Wiltshire. As part of the 1995 Real World Recording Week they recorded a version of the Paul Kelly tune "I Know Where To Go To Feel Good" with the legendary pop/punk master - Iggy Pop.

Every album has achieved critical acclaim of the highest standard and it is no surprise that The Black Sorrows popularity expanded dramatically when Vika and Linda joined. They will be sadly missed. Now Vika and Lindas' own live performances are
the talk of the town.

In Conclusion ...
The personality of Vika and Lindas' vocal was so often recorded as a duo in the past is further enhanced on this album by their being recorded as individuals. Whilst one features as lead vocal the other is in full support. It is a humility that typifies the compatibility of the sisters.

Vika and Linda are both singers with enormous reserves of pride and soul. They sing with a companionship that is of an understanding so deep that it appears instinctive. They sing with a joy for life and a love of loving. And just as the album reflects that beauty it also becomes a reflection of them now standing on their own.
